Book cover for
Lord of the Flies
The Lord of the Flies is one of my favorite books. I read it first when I was 12, and I remember, how deeply it made me think.
In my opinion, this is a beautiful, but raw and
timeless story about humanity itself.
So, I wanted to make a simple, recognizable, hand drawn book cover.
First, I wanted to show the kids, but most Hungarian versions of the book already show the kids on the cover and I wanted to make something different. So I chose the Pig head.

The Pig head is one of the most important elements of the story, it is a symbol. I wanted to show this symbol, as raw as the book is.
It's a line drawing, colored with a few brushstrokes. It became dark, simple and maybe scary, just as I wanted.

The final drawing was enough to use as a book cover. If I would draw more elements, for e.g. spears of kids, I would loose this simple and minimal style of the cover, so I used it boldly as a roll-up too.
